American Bar Association Safety Warning:
How an Abuser Can Discover Your Internet Activities
It is very difficult for victims of intimate/domestic violence to recognize that they are victims and that they can leave abusive situations. The following resources are intended to assist people in recognizing the circumstances that are considered intimate/domestic violence. Intimate/domestic violence involves people who are or have been in a relationship such as husband-wife, boyfriend-girlfriend, or parent-child. Such relationships sometimes deteriorate, with one person becoming abusive toward the other, using physical violence and/or psychological threats. Recent research reveals that such abuse can increase and is worst when a victim attempts to end the relationship. It is critical, therefore, for victims to receive support in order to leave abusive situations safely. Our goal is to provide victims and witnesses of intimate/domestic violence with a set of resources to facilitate provision of such support.
